This fly has been credited to Dr T.C Wickham of Winchester who tied this traditional wet fly in the 1880s as a general purpose up-wing dry fly for English chalk streams.
Imitates: Originally crafted to imitate the Pale Watery Dun, a species of mayfly found around chalk streams in England. It is versatile and can also imitate dead flies, aquatic insects and some emergers.
METHOD
Stillwater - this fly also is successful in reservoirs and dams.Running water - Its buoyant wing and delicate presentation make it suitable for fishing on the surface, where it can be dead-drifted or skated to entice surface-feeding trout. Additionally, when tied in smaller sizes and weighted variations, Wickham's Fancy can be effectively fished as a nymph or emerger pattern, adding to its utility throughout various stages of insect activity.
