A great little mayfly nymph pattern, tied on a longshank hook to more closely imitate the length of a mayfly with its distinctive ribbed body. The goldhead bead is often thought to mimic the bubble produced at the natural insect stage, but it generally just provides the weight to get the fly to the bottom fast and smooth. The bead can also often give a glint to attract the trout
Imitates: Various mayfly nymphs
METHOD
Generally fish nymph flies along the bottom, move them slowly and smoothly. Every now and then dart the fly forward as if it is attacking its prey or trying to escape from the advances of a predatory large fish. Such movements hopefully may induce a following trout to take your fly.
