A popular wet fly pattern, often used for trout fishing, particularly in the UK. It's known for imitating various aquatic insects like caddis pupae, mayflies, and stoneflies. The fly's name refers to its key components: a grouse wing for a dark, slender wing, and claret-colored materials (often pheasant hackle) for the body and tail. It typically features a silver rib and orange tail, adding to its appeal.
Imitates: caddis pupae, mayflies, and stoneflies
METHOD
Most often fished as a wet fly, fished under the surface of the water. Use a sinking or floating line, depending on the depth and current of the water.
Let the fly swing naturally in the current, or use a slow, retrieve with a slight lift to mimic the movement of an insect. Experiment with different retrieves and line speeds to find what works best in your specific fishing conditions.
