A generic weighted pattern for imitating small prey fish, used as a saltwater and estuary fly and for tigerfish in some parts of Africa. Also a very useful generic purpose pattern for fly-fishing in the Rift Valley great lakes.
Imitates: Small fish fry and prawns
METHOD
Saltwater: In the surf, best fished on fast sink lines, but n estuaries, where they imitate plankton-eating fry, an intermediate or floating fly line should be used. Hand over hand produces best retrieve results, but ordinary strip retrieves are also effective. In fast estuarine currents, use a sinking line.
Freshwater: Used with a short, free-swinging 4cm monowire trace. Drift down the edges of lakes and rivers some 30 – 40 m out, casting towards the short with a type III sinking line. Strip retireve back. Use a 2m, 7 kg leader and expect hard strikes!
