The Bibio fly is a classic, versatile wet fly pattern, particularly effective for traditional loch-style fishing. It's designed to mimic various terrestrial insects, especially hawthorn and heather flies, and is known for catching both brown and rainbow trout, as well as salmon in larger sizes. The fly features a bushy hackle and is often tied on a short shank hook, making it suitable for fishing in a team of flies.
Imitates: Terrestrial insects
METHOD
Bibio as a Wet Fly: Fish the Bibio at a 45-degree angle, allowing it to drift naturally with the wind. Use a slow retrieve or occasional twitches to mimic a struggling insect.
Bibio as a Dry Fly: Fish the Bibio on the surface, either still or popped back over the top.
Considerations: The Bibio works well in smaller sizes as a middle fly, or on the dropper or bob fly.
Timing: Good fishing conditions for the Bibio are often found on overcast days or during the early morning and evening hours.
